Nice Flight Charlie Chan 10"x20" #1

Yes, Mary, Charlie Chan is finally done. I talked, rather moaned, to my friend that whenever I tried to finish this gull's face, it kept turning out like the cartoon Charlie Chan. I don't know that this bird has ever investigated any mysteries with a large family in tow but, I'm sure stranger things have happened.

I have now decided to give myself a challenge. I am going to do 30 paintings in 30 days with this being the first. I am not limiting myself to any subject matter, it even might be... gulp, a still life! I have this irrational fear of painting fruit so don't be looking for that anytime soon! Maybe one day....

  1. I always love your gulls! A 30-day challenge -- how fun (for us) -- good luck! A piece of fruit is just a very still bird... meaning, as someone once said on a blog (definitely not a quote), that it's ALL light and shadows and shapes; just paint those and be sure to squint!

  2. Yes, this will be fun for us! Hope there are birds included. I use to feel the same way about still lifes; but after doing a few, I've decided they're actually enjoyable and challenging.

  3. Ok, I hear you but there is still that little niggling in my brain that says, "Fruit is scary!!!!!" Maybe because the first thing I tried to paint was an apple and it was AWFUL. I've been afraid of it ever since.
