Pug Tired 5"x7"

I love how pugs just plop down when they are tuckered out. I wanted to paint all the little rolls as they flop themselves on the floor. Thanks for looking.

Redo Not Talking To You 8"x6"

Sometimes when you do a painting you ask yourself, "Could I have done it better?".  In this case, I decided, yes, I could have done it better. I wanted to eliminate some of the green and make it look more like a room by adding a wood floor and stripes to the wallpaper. I'm a lot happier with the painting now. Thanks for stopping by.

That's My Guy

Yup, that's my guy giving bunny ears to David Bates, Male Head IV. He was a really good sport going to the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art and The Kimbell Art Museum with me. We had a really good time and the artwork at both places were a feast for the eyes. Thanks for stopping by.

What's On The Easel

These are the two current works I have sitting on my easel. I can't wait to start on them after I get back from my visit to Ft Worth to see the Lucien Freud portrait exhibit being held at the Ft Worth, Texas, Museum of Modern Art. I've been looking forward to this exhibit all summer! I hope it will recharge my painting batteries. Thanks for stopping by.

The Guard Post 12"x24"

I enjoyed painting this guy. I think he ended up with a slight folk art look which I like. I enjoy the idea that he is the guardian of his little piece of ocean. Thanks for stopping by.

The Shell Connoisseur 6" x 8"

I did a similar painting to this but, on a larger scale. I wanted to try a smaller version and experiment with colors a little. It is always a challenge when working small. Thanks for looking.

Black Headed Gull III 8" x 10"

I've really enjoyed painting these guys. Again the blue is much lighter. It looks like I'm going to need to take a serious look at my camera. Thanks for stopping by.

The Long Neck 14" x 11"

I loved the curves in this birds neck. I also wanted to experiment with a dark marshy background. Thanks for looking.

Black Headed Gull II

I'm still in my gull and bird phase. This is a different type of black headed gull as his black hood   ends higher on his head.  I really enjoy painting these guys. I will have to go look in my bird book to figure out which is which. Again the sky is a lighter blue than in the photo. Thanks for looking.

Paparazzi 16 " x 20"

My tribute to the late Princess Diana. She was a person who I felt did a lot of good for people that were frequently overlooked by the world. It's a sad state that she was constantly pursued by paparazzi whether she wanted to be or not. Thanks for stopping by.

Black Headed Gull 8" x 10"

I'm still thinking of the beach. These gulls like to hang out on South Padre Island during the summer. They have gone by the time we take our usual jaunt in November. I love the beach but, I really prefer it with fewer people and cooler temps. I may need to take another picture as this one did turn out rather dark. The blue is actually a lighter sky blue. Thanks for stopping.

I'll Go First 20" x 16"

Another in my bathing beauty series. She took a while to finish. It's always surprising what ends up being a challenge in a painting. Things you think will be easy turn out to be difficult and things you thought would be difficult...are still difficult. Lol. Thanks for stopping by.

Reed Stalker 12" x 24"

I still have birds on my mind. I was able to take several pictures of these wonderful herons on my last trip to South Padre. I decided to continue my close-ups. Thanks for looking.

The Sheep's Vacation 11" x 14"

And, now for something a little silly. My Scottish blogger friend, Elizabeth McCrindle,  allowed me to use a photo she had taken of some Scottish sheep. When I looked at them they made me smile. I decided they needed to go on vacation, maybe to get a little sunshine. Who knew sheep could surf?(Grin)

It was my first time painting sheep so, that was a really interesting experience. I may do a more serious painting later. Thanks for looking.

Sky Rider 12" x 24"

I think I have the beach on the mind this week. Today I felt like painting a pelican so I did. There is nothing better than watching them glide on the air over the water. I am amazed each time. Thanks for looking.

Gull's View 16" x 20"

I enjoyed doing a much larger version of an earlier painting. It was a challenge to create this on a  larger scale than the original 5"x7". Thanks for looking.,

Pricing

One of the hardest things I have found to do as an artist, is how to price my work. After looking around and thinking very hard, I have now decided on my standard rates for the largest paintings I currently post on the Daily Paintworks site. Whewww, I'm glad that is over! Leona

"Suspicion In Pearls" 16"x 20"

This took a little while to finish. I've discovered that red does not dry that quickly. I'm enjoying experimenting with skin tones. Thanks for looking.

Longhorn Obsession

Driving around today I came across some more Texas longhorns and I have to admit I find them amazing. These lanky long horns can live on the scrubbiest of Texas fauna. When you get close to them it is surprising how truly large these animals are. As you can see by the photo though, they do start out a lot smaller and without the intimidating head gear. I love their range of colors.

"Laughing Bather" 20"x16"

                                                 Face detail of "Laughing Bather.

She is finally finished! She took longer than I thought and there were several challenges I had to face while painting her. I think they were addressed and I'm happy with the final result. Thanks for stopping by.

Vacation Day Framed NFS

Vacation Day ready to go to its new home. I love that I can create a personal gift for someone and in this case, a memory. Thanks for looking.

New Sketch 20" x16"

This is another in my bathing beauty series that I can't wait to get started on. I know it will be challenging but, I think she is going to be a lot of fun. I have almost finished another new wader painting except for a few facial fixes. I'm hoping to post her in the next day or so. Thanks for stopping by.

"Lazy Day" Revised

Today I've been working from a photo of one of my trips to South Padre Island, Texas. I have laid down the undertones for the skin and blocked in most of the painting. I wanted the water to be very calm and peaceful as my tube floater lazed away the day and I'm happy with the result. I'm hoping to have this finished by the beginning of next week. Thanks for stopping by.

I think I'm ready to call this finished. I may work on the hair more but I'm satisfied with everything else. I wanted nice tanned skin to reflect the beach vacation and calm water to set the mood.

The Zen of Darby

I just had to post this as he looks so darn cute! I call it the Zen of Darby.

Birds, Birds, Birds

Another of my favorite subjects to photograph are birds. Now that I have my long range lens I am able to take much better pictures of birds in flight. I was very excited to capture the images of the egrets in flight. These guys hang out at a local park not far from my home. Thanks for looking.

Looking for Longhorns

So, I sallied forth yet again today looking for the longhorn beasties. I have to admit I am fascinated by their amazing range of colors. The Mama at the bottom was not happy with me taking a picture of her calf. Thanks for looking.
